Christopher J. Culver’s appreciation for the power and unpredictability of the sea began during his childhood summers on the Straits of Mackinac in Michigan at his family’s retreat, Point Nipigon. The weather on the Great Lakes is challenging, and he and his family often encountered fast-moving storms and tumultuous seas during countless journeys on the lakes.
Culver’s passion for offshore sailing developed while sailing his 31-foot Far East Mariner Ketch along the coast of California. Culver went on to log over 20,000 offshore miles aboard his Hinckley SW 59, Cetacea II, which he raced to Bermuda regularly, winning the 2009 Marion Bermuda Race in Class A. In 2009 Culver purchased a Swan 42, Blazer, and has won numerous races including three NYYC Annual Regattas, American Yacht Club Spring and Fall Series, Ida Lewis distance race, and the NYYC Astor Cup. Culver continues to enjoy a full schedule of racing on Blazer, participating in Swan 42 class competitions and IRC handicap racing. In addition to sailing, Chris and his wife, Deirdre, enjoy spending time on their 60-foot motor yacht in New England during the summer, and in Florida and the Bahamas during the winter season.
Culver is president and CEO of Health Media Network (HMN), the fastest growing point of care media company in the United States. Prior to Health Media Network, Culver was CEO of another New York-based media company that he sold in 2006. In 1990, he launched the first major instant lottery game in the United Kingdom, The U.K. Charity Lottery. He returned to the US to start his own media and advertising agency in 1991, with a client list that included Time Warner City Cable, Arizona Iced Tea, Armani, Bordeaux Wines and the Newspaper National Network.
Culver serves as the New York Yacht Club’s Rear Commodore, and has served on several boards, including Sail to Prevail, Point of Care Council, International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS), and Children’s Miracle Network (NY), and is the former board chairman of Gramercy Park, New York. Chris and Deirdre reside in Greenwich, Connecticut, and Newport, Rhode Island.
